When I bought my timeshare, the salesperson made all kinds of promises that have ended up being untrue. How can these people boldface lie and get away with it? Is there anything that I can do about it?

This is why it's so important to make sure that any promise you hear come out of a salesperson's mouth is also written in easy to understand English in the contract. This is not only for timeshares, but all major purchases you make.

It's like used car salesmen - nothing they say is worth anything unless it's in the contract

I was lied to, too. Is there a way to get out of the timeshare contract if the salesperson lied to you?

I've been reading this forum (and many others) since I purchased my timeshare. I felt the need to join this board and tell you that it can be done. I'm like you, how can someone tell such lies and get by with it...no other industry I can think of gets by with it.
One thing you have to do is be very persistant with them. Keep asking to speak to their supervisor, no matter who you are talking to. It took me several months, but I finally found the right person and I deposited my refund check two weeks ago, AND, no longer have a contract.

I think the big resorts are better at not lying compared to the smaller timeshare resorts.

Not true! I bought at orange lake in Orlando. Their parent company is Holiday Inn and they are pretty big. I was lied to and misled so much my head is still spinning. I just want out of my contract and I have no idea how to do it :(

Below, there is an article I wrote last year. In this article I mention the most common lies told by sales reps.
You are a victim of timeshare scam in Mexico if you were told:
- Your timeshare is a good financial investment.
- You can rent your timeshare weeks and make a profit.
- You can sell your timeshare anytime and make a profit.
- Somebody will buy your old timeshare for a considerable amount of money.
- Your timeshare will offer you exceptional benefits and discounts for airfare, car rental, cruises, hotels or tours.
- Your timeshare offers tax advantages.
- Your timeshare is a deeded or like a deeded property (perpetuity).
- You signed a waiver rescinding your right to cancel your timeshare within the 5 day recsission period.
If you purchased a timeshare in Mexico under these premises, contact us now to help you cancel your timeshare now.

I bought with Starwood and have been lied to and cheated and they are huge. I pay twenty times what it would cost me to go on vacation to any other resort. How I truly regret the purchase I made. No one tries to resolve my problems and I have NEVER gotten the unit I purchased. I am downgraded every year, no matter when I reserve the unit.
